‘The Odyssey’ Set to Run Under Three Hours, Says Producer

In a recent interview with Deadline, producer Emma Thomas guaranteed that Christopher Nolan’s next Greek mythological epic will be under three hours long.

“We’re aiming for a tight, focused runtime. While I can’t give an exact minute count yet, the film will definitely stay under three hours,” Thomas told Deadline.

The film is still in post‑production, so the final length could shift slightly. Nolan’s only three‑hour film to date is Oppenheimer. His other long‑form works, such as Interstellar (169 minutes) and The Dark Knight Rises (164 minutes), have hovered just below the three‑hour mark.

Adapting Homer’s sprawling poem within a sub‑three‑hour window raises questions about which episodes will make the cut. Viewers can expect the core journey of Odysseus- the Trojan Horse, the Cyclops, the Sirens, Circe, Calypso, Nausicaa, Poseidon, and the parallel stories of his son Telemachus and wife Penelope- to be featured.

The ensemble cast includes:

  • Matt Damon
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Tom Holland
  • Charlize Theron
  • Zendaya
  • Lupita Nyong’o
  • Robert Pattinson
  • Jon Bernthal
  • Benny Safdie
  • John Leguizamo
  • Himesh Patel

The Odyssey is slated to open in cinemas and IMAX on July 17, 2026.
